Wrangler soft-top

I'm taking a 2000 Wrangler on a nine-hour drive in a couple of weeks. I've never taken it more than 200 miles before with the soft-top on, and I almost went insane that time... are there any simple things I can do (without spending a crapload of money, of course) to make the trip a little more bearable? Do earplugs help? Or can I do something to the top to make it flap around less?

Close all your windows and set your fresh-air vent or A/C (not recirculate) to the third or fourth fan position, it will "inflate" the top and cut down on the flapping. Less so if you have half-doors. I wear earplugs on the freeway because my tires are so loud.

Mental instability goes hand in hand with Jeep ownership.

Come on over to the dark side.....

You don't have to be crazy to drive a Jeep.....

The fan solution works well.

I don't know if there is any adjustment in the factory softtop bows or not, but you might check.

If you find that those options don't satisfy you, check out

it's a plastic piece that applies tension to the top fabric. I drove my CJ7 with fabric half doors & a bikini top on it from Minnesota to Moab and back. Foam earplugs made it comfortable.

Put the top down, for the entire trip. Then it won't flap around as much. See this site for an alternative.

I know exactly what you are talking about. I purchased a Convert-A-Top

can ride on the interstates in silence. If it rains I pop the windows in. I also have a Window Roll. It works. Andy

If I'm going anywhere on the highway with the top up and my windows out I out a ball-bungie around the sail panel and the roll bar on my 2000 TJ. It seem to quiet the flapping down.

I drove my Rubi from WI to Rapid City,SD with half doors off, manual gears churning and no cruise control at all. I loved every minute of it. I enjoyed it all on the way back too. Best trip I ever had.

all that wind rushing in kept the top from flapping. ; )

Sadly, my Rubi is gone.

I am looking for a newer Rubi tho!

Putting the top down for the entire trip is pretty much the way to go to get rid of the noise. Wear a tight fitting hat to keep the sun out of your eyes and you should be fine. The wind blowing around your face keeps you awake, too... =)
