Hi all Well........ it passed I relined rear shoes before taking it and cleaned up bad indicator connection on the ramp. Now all i have to do is sort cam shaft rattle out ( hence much ooming and arghing in previous post) and jobs a good 'n'. You all probably think Im of my head buying somthing with an engine rattle but my reasoning is amount I got off asking price will pay for engine fix and that is gonna be alot cheaper than changing a chassis a few years down the line so its head off at the weekend and fingers crossed its something simple and obvious it sounds like a tappet but it aint Im currently thinking cam shaft lobe and or a follower. When I checked tappets there was a valve cap missing this was replaced but unfortunately didnt fix the noise (cap not turned up as yet) so has any one had experience of exsesive tappet clearance busting a follower? Any ideas tips much welcomed

Thanks in advance Icky

When i rebuilt my 2.5D I found that a couple of the followers were in multiple pieces - so they do break!. I replaced them all when i rebuilt it.

Did you have a problem with the new MOT regs and the stated weight of the vehicle ?

I had none with my 110 CSW a couple of weeks ago - but then it was a "Land Rover Aware" garage.

Glad to hear it went OK have you had the long screwdriver on the rockers yet to decide which is the guilty party - always a crowd pleaser when you put it off centre and get a clout in the ear Derek

I use a telesopic "part getter" type thing with a magnet on the end, then if there's a whack it just telescopes a bit! The hollow middle seems to help with the sound, although the magnet bit can make positioning hard as the bit you want to listen to always seems to be non-ferrous but surrounded with bits of steel!

Now thats lateral thinking Ian I have one stuck on the side of the cabinet I'll give that a try next time I'm doing noisy tappets- not on the scooby tho'my necks not that long.Wonder if those SPQR tappet adjusters are still about they solved a lot of problems specially if there was wear in the tappets Derek Derek

not seen them new for years, but I just happen to have 2 a full kit and one on its own :)
