2002 Disco 4.0l V8 - any common problems?

I've been offered a rather nice 4.0l Disco for a good price. I've driven it before, and I'm taking it for a more thorough test at the weekend. I've only had 110s and Series 2 109s before, so what should I look out for? Also, the Engine Warning light is on, and apparently it comes on quite regularly. Given that it's a Rover V8, I'm inclined to ignore it - should I take it more seriously?

Cheers, Thomas (I used to post as Stuart a long time ago)

Engine warning light means emissions out of spec. Could be just the O2 sensor or maybe a dead cat.

This engine goes very well on LPG.

I'm in Switzerland, and it almost certainly does here :) But I'll worry about that when it comes due next year.

Er, 8 mpg?

Well, apart from that :) Although that seems a bit low, even for a Rover V8

I used to get about 10-11 in my Defender auto, about 16 on a good run. I think the Discos are a bit better - but not much That's why many are converted to LPG I have heard the gearboxes are not too reliable.

This is very much a third vehicle for me - my primary mode of transport is = the train :) My "regular" drive is a motorbike, and the Disco is for playi= ng, and long distances - I work in Switzerland, but my family is based 10 h= ours away in Western France. I wouldn't want to ride the bike all that way= , but a Disco should be comfy enough for the distance and even with petrol = prices as they are, it's cheaper (and a little quicker) than taking the tra= in all that way. I've had petrol and diesel 109s, a 2.5TD 110 and a V8 110= . And I'll be honest, the V8 is the one I got on with best :)

The 4.0L V8 is light years ahead of the old 110 V8s - and the 3.9 injection as well.

That's it, you answered your own question! Go for it!

The guy I sold the 200 TDi to drove it backwards and forwards to Spain regularly, he found it very comfy and the lack of power wasn't a problem on a long trip. The newer RR will be much more fun.
