happy landings

I've just chilled out ( several beers and a nice curry) after a quite exciting run back from Warrington with Carl's( Elder) Rangie which has now joined the stable. I didn't get too far ( end of the road ) before a healthy backfire stopped proceedings having blown the pipe off the air mass sensor so the ensuing 20 miles were at the expense of my nerves . Turned out to be a lucky delay tho' we missed a nasty RTA on the Lymm back road involving several cars and needing 4 police cars an ambulance and paramedics. It looks like I'm going to busy for the next few weeks my thanks to Carl for the deal and to Martin ( Oily ) for the replacement side window wish I'd had more time to chat but I was running late for an urgent collection I made it with 15 minutes to spare. I did like the idea of that guided missile up on the ramp tho 'nother quid on the lottery I reckon.

Derek Kato 200TDi Disco RRC 3.5 V SE my cheeky pal over the road with a Freelander popped across for a look and to ask about a trickle of water under his motor ( I'm betting aircon ) but he reckons I have space for a series as well - I think he wants a proper Landrover now.

Have fun with it Derek.

I'm no major mechanic, but when it was running, it ran "OK". I do miss it already. Even when it let me down, I got used to seeing it=20 parked as I drove past every morning. If I hadn't already replaced the=20 daily runner when it failed, I would still be driving it.

Glad you got him running OK on petrol. See my email about why it might=20 have stopped idling on LPG. It happened once to me and it was that.

before I fitted the flap opener, it wouldn't run below 1000 at all on=20 LPG, and then once the flap opener is setup it idled straight away.

On the evaporator, the screw on the side with the spring on is the=20 mixture, the recessed one on the front is the speed I think.

I'm sure it is either a split or blow off vac pipe or one of the=20 electrical connections on the vacuum solenoid in the flap opener vac=20 line.

In news: snipped-for-privacy@news.individual.net, Elder wittered on forthwith;

That bloody LPG setup had me properly confused.

IIRC that's for the base idle.

Should be easy enough to cure. Did need a water pump though, noisiest I've ever heard, easy job anyway.. Otherwise seemed like a pretty solid Rangie that.

I got the turbo working properly on mine today. 7 hours work to replace the

4 o/s exhaust manifold gaskets and the link pipe gasket from the n/s bank. Whoever reconditioned the turbo fitted the exhaust manifold back without gaskets. No excuse for that kind of thing really, but now it's quite worryingly quick for a Classic.

I'm in no rush theres plenty of niggly naggley bits to do before I let Kato go and start using the car , the rear axle is unbolted and the spacers are off on one side , discovered I had none of the correct size bolts in my boxes which in view of what a bloody squirrel * I am is nowt short of amazing. I will have to tidy that LPG installation up theres pipes and wires going in all directions and wrapped round themselves once they are neatly arranged I'll work out what does what.

Glad it is going OK. It was a tidy solid motor, just "rough" looking, until it started to=20 play up on me, which turned out to be the dizzy cap.
