motivation required

B*gger. Used my last spare supply a few weeks ago. I too am waiting for a delivery.

Don't bother, it can be done. It's not worth doing, you couldn't do it, anyway. ;-)

Got pleanty of Motivational Pictures... sad bugger that I am, kept a digital record in case I buggered it up, plus it gave me something to look @ in preparation for the next day.

Once you make that first cut with the grinder, its like surgery you carnt stop until the final stitch weld is in place !!

Go for it .............................. its easy to repair if anything goes wrong.

Word of Warning though.. Take all the Measurements you need for the distance between the rear cross member and center cross member as it is easier to work off that the Heynes Book of lies. Or you end up doing what i had to do, fix the tub back in place then butt new 1/4 chassis back up onto the chassis then tack weld, then take it all off again and get the height correct -- ( sledge hammer and spirit level works well there ;-) ....

i was hoping to leave the tub in situ, then just cut old one out and slide new one in ( ohh, is that how simple it is,,,, What was i worrying about, silly me)

bolt the rear tub to rear x-member then see to other end, is this the foolproof way or do i still have to get the tape out??

Somebody did a rear X-member on my 109 before I owned it. They cut the floor of the tub about 18" back from the rear, and removed the rivets, and lifted the section of floor out. Then they cut off the X-member, slid the new one in, bolted it up and seam welded round the chassis rails. Then they riveted the floor back in place.

ive made my floor removable, all the way back to the bulkhead,

ive got 4 days to do it in, in between looking after the kids and feeding the dog, washing the clothes, cleaning the house and getting the caravan ready to take away towed by my new half chassis.

Seriously though, if the floor is removable then thats the way to go, makes for a nice and simple job :-)

Only reason I buggered around so much was I wrote the measurements on the chassis in black marker then accidental ran an angel grinder over them ............. Doesnt Help ...lol

Did it eventually, after having to rebuild some of the chassis that seemed to fall off where it shouldnt have but hey that was all part of the challenge.

Seriously look at Jay-lo , started as a bit of a knacker, now it's every adventures dream machine. I reckoned 3 months for a rather tight squeeze of the Jag lump and autobox for Percy also considering real life....2 years later but then after 12 months there was a national motivation shortage and blockades by the french didn't help. >:-(

the jag-into-LR job is BIG though, specially into a series. I had a series I 86" into which some clever type had fitted a 2.4 Jag engine, and there was a lot of modification to the bodywork etc. Mind, one hell of a series I when it was done. with standard brakes, eeek!
