RR v8 -> SIII = clutch problem

All but finished putting the RR v8 into my old SIII. Slight snag is that the clutch operating arm bottoms out when the pedal is only half way down to the floor. After fiddling around and peering into the little cover plate on top of the SIII gearbox bell housing it seems that the clutch release bearing is too short! i.e. the bearing has to sit unnaturally far forward on it's travel to get near the clutch plate fingers to that the slave cylinder end of the operating arm bottoms out on the casting before the clutch has disengaged.



It's a Milner conversion kit and it's gone together a treat apart from this. So, gentle folk, what's the solution please. Is the Range Rover release bearing longer (and would it fit the SIII input shaft) or is there something about the RR flywheel that's not cutting the mustard (too thin meaning that the clutch sits too far forward perhaps?).



The set up is: RR 3.5 v8 twin carb RR flywheel drilled and pegged for.... LR 9½ clutch Milner V8-SIII gearbox adapter ring LR SIII release bearing (operating arm, slave cylinder, master cylinder etc) LR SIII gearbox.



BTW, full pedal travel is achieved when the bleed nipple is open (so the master isn't bottoming out). Putting a temporary "C-collar" between the release bearing and pressure plate fingers allows full pedal travel and peachy clutch operation.

The ball that the operating arm pivots on needs to be moved out (towards flywheel) by about 5mm (I think). I can't remember how the ball is fixed to the gearbox, you may be able to unscrew it. On mine I made a piece that fixed to the arm where it pivots to bring the arm forward.
