Stage 1 V8

Is a Stage 1 V8 a series 3 or 110? (leaf or coil?)

There's a clue the the subject - It's a Stage One!

Leaf sprung, with constant velocity joints, and a bigger engine are the main differences. Jon

for the benefit of simplicity I'll class it as a series 3 (leaf) and therefor not what I'm looking for.. thanks ;o)

It was the half-way house. V8 engine, permanent four wheel drive and leaf springs. Not sure what the wheelbase is.

My 109 has leaf springs, and I can honestly say that it rides much better than the Discovery. I think this is because the springs are new and SWB instead of LWB at the rear (so a bit softer than standard) whereas the Discovery is on original springs and bushes, so clonks and thuds like a bugger. The comfy seats in the 109 make a big difference too.

My point is that a knackered coiler will ride like a pile of crap whereas a decent Series may not...

So it has permenant 4 wheel drive, so the transmission layout (knobs and levers) is the same as an early 110 rather than a S3? Does it have the same 4 speed gearbox as early 110 V8's? (what gearbox is that anyway?).

It has the LT95, same as the Range Rover had. Awesome g/box. It has a vacuum operated centre diff (it can be modified to become mechanical). I loved mine......but had to sell it.

Lee D with a 101 and Knackered diff lock.

Is the 101 diff lock mechanically knackered with it's internals, or failing to operate? My 101 had a troublesome diff lock when I first acquired it. It turned out to be a chafed 1/4 vacuum line where the alternator fan had rubbed through it because it was poorly routed. Also gave the switching valve a service (very carefully as they are not really designed to be re-opened) and a few shots of silicon grease. I sometimes have to reverse the vehicle once or twice to disengage the diff lock, but otherwise ok.
