unknown thingy

On a 2000 Disco what is the small cylindrical object attached to the dash, central, and adjacent to the windscreen between the de-misters. My suspicion is it's an antenna for the central locking but that's just a guess. Steve W

My theory is that it has something to do with the Active Cornering Enhancement system. But it may be something to do with the aircon interior temperature control?

No - they're up in the ceiling, two of them.

My theories are based on the fact I have seen some Td5's without the "thingy" present - models without aircon or ACE.

It is a device to deter rhinoceroses from attacking the car. No rhinos in the area? It's working, then. Don't mess with it.

Thought it might be an electronicultrasonickangarooandwombatandmotherinlaw deterring device, but noticed it's not all that effective when I'm cooking a Sunday roast.

Its a sunshine sensor! Adjusts the climate control to compensate for sun shining on one side of the car.
