Water leak

Hi gang. A few weeks back I noticed that my 1994 P38 Range Rover HSE was losing water. I took it into my local specialists who discovered it was the seals to the heater matrix. These were replaced but it was also neccesary to replace the matrix too. I collected the car last Friday, and have had to top up 1 litre of water already and have travelled only 25 miles. Now I am hoping this is just an air trap and will work itself out? Or do I need to take it back in?

Could be an air trap, but it could also be knckered engine liners.

Or both.

That's quite a loss for liners. Isn't the HSE a 4.6 I think it is only the 4.0 which has the liner problem or am I misinformed?

Can be either.

Best way to check for liners is whip out the plugs, any that are mega clean & you have a problem of liners or head gaskets.

Thanks for the info folks, mine is also an LPG and is the 4.0 litre auto. I have had a look at the plugs and they are as would be expected, dirty. Thats good aint it? (He asks hopfully).

Have a look at the very front & back galley on both sides of the heads to block, they leak like f*ck there.

Check hoses for leaks too.

Went for a 40 mile drive on the motorway today. got back left the car for an hour and checked the water level. It has not dropped since Sunday so it looks like it was an air lock? What I have noticed today as it was rainging very hard, was that the blower did not do such a good job on the windows as it did before the matrix was replaced. Hoping to Gawd that it does not have to go back.

It isn't set to recirculate is it in all the excitement of changing the matrix?

That will soon mist it up.

I will double check that button in the morning but I do not think so. Will update tomorrow.

Al is well now, do not know what happened but I have just been out and tried every vent in turn and it is working OK. No more water needed either so maybe I can have a good run now? LOL
