Posted for a friend - 1.1 (actually it might be a 1.0 heh) 106.

"Well lets give you complete rundow of what happens:-

I turn the key I hear the fuel pump initialize If ive been driving a while it will turn over really fast, if i havnt, it with turn over slowly.

Now at this point it might start fine, after 3 or 4 turns. Normally it goes on like this :-

Stop trying to start it, give it a second And then it starts

Or if im REALLY unlucky. Ill be sat there for 5 mins while i keep trying over and over again. After the 7th time, ill stop for a min, and then try again, and again sometimes it starts.

I used to be able to get it to start if i shook the car from side to side.

*strange i know, But it worked*. As if it had a loose connection, or a bad earth. *i dont know what im looking for with a bad earth*

If you have any suggestions then by all means =)"

Allegedly it's had a new battery.

As you said, bad feed or earth to the body / engine, or the starter is kaput.

Tim.

Hehe he said all that not me - copied directly from an email ;-)

Thanks, I'll pass that on. It's possibly worse when the car is warm as well...

Buy a cheap multimeter, measure the voltage across the battery when =

cranking the engine, & the voltage between the battery negative & the =

engine. If the second one's more than 0.5V then the earths duff. If the = =

first ones below 10.5v then the battery or the starters duff. Or you've = =

got totally the wrong oil in it & it's like treacle.
