Nankang tyres...never head of them!

On a 3rd car, less than 1k dry only miles a year. Need a new set of rubber,

195 x 60 x R14. Nankang look good for two reasons, one they are cheap at 33 quid each and two they have a pretty directional tread pattern!!!!!! Anyone used these of any other of the "cheap" "brand" tyres.

A friend of mine has just stuck a set of these on his '99 BMW 328i coupe (for budgetary reasons) and has had no complaints - heavy everday use, long commute, Scotland's finest weather conditions ;-) Oh, and he's a "push on" driver so I'd expect him to find the limits of poor tyres fairly quickly.

Given the above, your application / usage would hardly stress them!

You could always go for Colways - much cheaper but with retread stigma (that old chestnut).

I've used them, perfectly good. Think they are made by Michelin. As with most of these oriental and east european brands they are manufactured by the major companies to cover the full spectrum of the market. There is a website I saw once that lists all these cheapies, and who actually owns them. DaveK.

I've heard bad things about Nankangs. They've been referred to as 'hedge finders' lol. They weren't the same size etc as your ones though, but I think they're all likely to be cheap and rubbishy.

Bloody hell, they're cheaper than I remembered!

195/65R15V for the Passat are only £16.59 each. Got to be worth a punt.

I had four 225/50 16" Nankangs on my Supra for two years - 25000 miles. The back two have just been replaced as they had worn down to the limit, the fronts are 2/3 worn.

I had to take it steady in the wet on roundabouts, other than that no complaints especially as they were only £50 quid each, other tyres that size would have cost over £100 each.

And this is based on what?

I've used the larger sizes on Transits without trouble.

What like a Fiat is likely to be cheap and rubbishy....?

Tigar TG635's seem pretty good on my Primera @£35 each 195/60R14. Progressive in the wet and much the same grip as in the dry, lasting OK, estimate about 25k on the fronts. Serbian company been around since the '50s and currently owned by Michelin. Not quite as grippy as Continentals but safe enough.

And?

Absolutely nothing wrong with a quality remould.

Fitted them to a couple of Capri 2.8is and A Saab 900 in the past, very good budget tyre, no complaints from me. Mike

Apart from a duff batch twenty five years ago the only thing I have against remoulds is that they seem to wear rather fast.

At £16.59 / corner, I don't think it's something to complain about.

C'mon, it's been going on long enough lol

Precisely. Wonder if they do 'em for my Montego - though I put four new ones on 3000 miles ago.

I had one where the belt let go and the tyre bulged. The bulge got worn down and then the tyre punctured.

I've never had that happen on a 'new' tyre. Whether it's because it was a remould or not is of course another matter.

I thought you said it'd got better.

I've had sidewall bulges on Roadhogs, never had them on anything else. I've seen a remould seperate twice though.
