SWMBO's clio needs the front brake pads changing. Haynes helpfully points out that they may be either Lucas or Bendix pads, but doesn't give any clues as to how to tell.
There are no obvious markings on the pads or callipers that I can see
- does anyone know how to tell or do I have to take the old ones off when I head out to buy the new ones?

Well, I took the wheel off, spotted the lucas logo on the calliper, and sat there wondering why I couldn't see it last time. Hey ho...
Got to the local auto factors with the spare pad in case, said I wanted brake pads and disks for a 1997 Clio, and he said "that'll be Lucas ones" from the shape of the pad.
Well, SWMBO is now happy after I spent a chunk of the afternoon giving her car some TLC. Just two leaks to sort out now - one of coolant, no idea where , and one of water through the sunroof seal.
They can both wait for another day.
