The clutch pedal goes nearly all the way to the floor before disengaging. When engaging it fully grips in the first inch or so on the upward stroke.
Any ideas on what todo.

Adjust cable, replace clutch.
I doubt if this is a clutch problem. More likely that the cable or other form of linkage is out of adjustment. It needs to be tightened up but not so much that it removes all the free play from the pedal.

Because when you see an advert for a replacement clutch, it says, "Astra Clutches from £99.99" rather than "Astra Mk. 3 hydraulic type 44.3.3d Clutches from £99.99" eh?
why dont posters put the vehicle details when asking questions, it does help.
theres an awful lot of different makes of astras out there, some have cables, some are hydraulic.
Slide drivers seat forward.
The cable might have stretched or be about to break completely, or there's some other problem that's stopped the movement on the pedal being transferred to the clutch. If it's hydraulic then it could be leaking.
