Hello all, got a cavalier 94 ran out of petrol, the fuel pump is working and the sparks are too but the thing will not start. any ideas. cheers.

...or at least put *some* in :-)

Chris

Are you sure it ran out? Was it starting and running perfectly before this? Is the camshaft turning?

Chris

Very funny all, started perfectly before and cam is turning. As far as i can see everything is working fine, but the engine wont fire.

Fuel pump running? Perhaps its abit shagged and wont pick up the fuel since its run dry?

Is there fuel at the rail / SPi unit?

Tim..

try changing the fuel filter???? you may off picked up some crap from the tank.

How much petrol have you put in? If just one jerry can full - try putting a good few more cans worth in, or even possibly towing it to a petrol station and filling it to the top. I had a Carlton once that ran out when the gauge was little below the 1/4-full mark. First time it "ran out" I couldn't believe it was fuel as one gallon didn't make a difference - tried loads of ignition-related stuff, and in the end a few more gallons solved it. After then I made sure I never ran it too low and it was fine ever since.
