Changing Timing Belt

My Son is about to change the timing belt on his 97 1.4 renault megane looking at the haynes manual all seems good until it comes to tensioning the belt it recons you need a special tool from renault ... there must be some other way any help will be much appreciated...

I know of many a garage that will not have that tool and yet will still do the job. I remember some of the tools used to simply be levers with weights on them that one attached like a wrench.

Why not wander in to the local Renault fast fit centre and have a discrete chat with a mechanic. At worst he is likely to show you the tool.

Take it to a non-franchised Renault specialist. Avoids grazed knuckles etc., and you get some kind of comeback if they screw up.
