Costco Stuff -

Slightly OT, but i know lots of people here are Costco members...

Before i go and splash out on a membership i would like some idea of the prices to see if it worth my while, but my local depot wont give me them without the £27 membership.

I am after a couple of mid-range tyres 175/70/R14s (I have been looking at some Avons CR322s but am open to suggestions on reasonable tyres) - supply only.

and also a Decent mid-range battery 44Ah 12v type for a Combo Van.

and completley OT do they sell Heinz Cream of Celary soup because i can't get it anywhere!

TIA

Tom

Why not just pay for membership, walk round, get your prices, if you are not satisfied then go back to membership and ask for a refund, there will be no argument.

Costco only sell Michelin tyres. They can do supply only, but since fitting, valve, balance, filled with nitrogen and old tyre disposal is only

3 pounds a tyre it is not really worth it, even if you have a modern tyre machine and balancer!

They only sell Bosch batteries in a limited range.

I have never noticed Heinz Cream of Celery soup. They do have Lloyd Grossman soups at a bargain price, and they are really good.

I will be going to Costco either today or tomorrow, so I will get you a price on that size tyre and the battery if they have it, and have a look in the soup area.

Over 99 per cent of my household shop is done in Costco, and I am amazed at how much people pay for inferior food and household stuff elsewhere.

Cheers Mr C I never thought of that... I have no issues with Michelin or a larger capacity battery, it certainly has room.

:-) I'll give them a go :-)

Thanks for the recommendations

The tyres are 62.08 each including everything. the battery is either 49.43 for a petrol combo or 59.78 for the diesel, both inc. vat. No celery soup, the have various heinz inc. variety pack, but not that.

For comparison, Michelin Saver at the same dimension (175/70R14T) on etyres are 69.30.

I remember not long ago saving significantly more on Costco compared to Kwik-Fit and the like. I guess this is still the case, but one now has more options. :-)

Re general shopping, I like their groceries too, but I find the quantities too vast to manage.

I tend to find, with a combination of what they are sampling each time I'm there, and a slice of Pizza, I don't need to eat for the day.

Their meat counter Angus burgers are a bit pricey but delicious, but if you can accept trade pack burgers they are really cheap and pretty tasty.

You need to buy the tyres when they are doing a voucher offer 20% off 4, then its much cheaper.

Hmm, baked potato with chilli and cheese for me thanks.

Ho yus... thanks for reminding me, I have some I froze mid summer..

It's all pretty good quality, the Kirkland stuff is very good for an own brand and the service is second to none.

That's a good idea, but I usually change two at a time.

Thats a good price but it's not that good if your paying £27 to join, the normal fitted price would be £66 all in. And thats with a £9 fitting charge and a 20% mark up worked in, so with a bit of shopping around I reckon you could buy them cheaper. Also Firestone and Pirelli at £49 and Continental at £56 are cheaper than Michelin, and budgets are £33 .

the battery is either 49.43

Thats the tyre I do for £66 , they cost £40.30 +vat so there is room to haggle even at £66 .

so buy 4, have two fitted and the other two fitted when you are ready.

I have no trouble with people looking for cheap tyres if they want them, but I know that they will not do significantly better than michelin overall. I just add on a tenner a tyre regardless.

We use the Kirkland Columbian roast fresh coffee exclusively in the office. We've tried all sorts of branded coffee, in various roasts and nothing was as good as that, and it is fairly cheap.

I like my tyres fresh. :-) That's becasue I don't do many miles and I don't run them over 5 years from production date.

Plus, storage space is at a premium.

YMMV.
