Focus roof bar bolts?

Jun 27, 2004 9 Replies

I have a pair of Automaxi roof bars for the 5 door Focus. There should be 8 bolts that fit into the Focus 'hidden' roof bolt sockets - 2 for each bracket. However the proper bolts with Allen key heads are mislaid. Anyone know:

1) Where I may be able to get a proper set of the bolts?

2) The proper size/ thread etc. for some replacements that will do the job?

Thanks

Wouldn't your local Frod dealer be the most obvious place to start?

Ah...don't great minds think alike. I went to my local town Ford dealer and they weren't sure!

I haven't had chance to go to one of the bigger city dealers yet.

Phone? Cheaper than the drive there.

Ok - appreciate you may be attempting to help, but if you don't know the answer then thanks for your input. My original posting was a Sunday when most places were closed. I have now done the visits, been to two independant towbar/roof rack type places and a Ford main dealer and even they can't help.

Use standard M6x .5 bolts of 20mm in length...... B&Q or anywhere will have them.... actually better with the 10mm head to tighten with..... If you wish buy stainless steel ones..... they dont rust.... that is if you are keeping on the roof bars..

Standard thread pitch for M6 is 1.0mm. I'm sure 0.5mm pitch can be had but it is a very fine thread and cant really see why Ford would use such a thread.

Bob

It stops people attching their roof rack with 4.6 bolts & blaming Ford when they snap?

you are correct.... the pitch is 1.0mm........ Sorry
