Headlamps bulbs....

In 1989 ?Dipped beam? was defined as "A beam of light emitted by a lamp which illuminates the road ahead of the vehicle without causing undue dazzle or discomfort to oncoming drivers or other road users."

I?d have thought any coating (and I?m not sure if there is one) would have been worn off by the time the headlights get to the state they need the metal polish / toothpaste treatment. As for using cutting compound, same idea, just most people have toothpaste and metal polish to hand but perhaps not cutting compound.

?Front fog lamp? is defined as "A lamp used to improve the illumination of the road in front of a motor vehicle in conditions of seriously reduced visibility." Since the fog switch turns them on, they are Front fog lamps.

a "Front fog lamp" must not be "Used so as to be lit at any time other than in conditions of seriously reduced visibility." So it is illegal to use those lamps as 'cornering lights', even if just one is lit.

I can't see any later amendments which might allow them -'adaptive front lighting system' seems to relate only to 'dipped beam'.

You may be correct. I read about the Outlander headlights having a ?flat? dip (like France) on a forum- not always reliable. I?ve not taken the Outlander abroad yet so haven?t investigated in detail.

(We are getting Crit? Air whatsits for the two vehicles that haven?t got them, just in case the French up the price post Brexit.)

You need a suitable wall in dark place. Not something you can carry around ;-)

But they were an option on many cars. So how are they going to know if they are original or a later addition?
