Ah right, yes, a diagnosis would show a problem if it existed sometimes,=20 but not others. Ideally it takes good old fashioned drive it and listen,=20 to tell if something actually is making a noise. If you are overly=20 concerned, don't go to a main dealer or a big franchise like Halfords,=20 or Mr Clutch, go to a little back street place, and offer to pay him an=20 hours labour to check it out. He'll listen, and drive it, and tell you=20 if anything is wrong. Depending on how honest he is (seeing as he making=20 an hours labour anyway), he may find "one or two small jobs", or he may=20 not. =20
I doubt it. At MOT, the car will only be run at idle apart from driving=20 in and out of the bay. As long as it can get in there by it's own power=20 they don't care. They will test the emissions, but it could sound like a=20 duck farting but as long as the emissions are in limits they won't give=20 a crap.=20
