No, the brake pedal doesn't move anywhere near as far as the clutch. It's generally OK when I put my foot down, it's only when it lifts up. Occasionally my foot does slip of the brake pedal, but not often.

I won't be throwing them away yet because they're all I've got, I do need to get some new foot wear though :-(

It pinks more in 4th than 5th at that speed.

Does anyone know if the 899cc engine's got an exhaust manifold shield? Friend of mine with a Punto had one that gained a bit of a rattle there after being in the garage for a timing belt change.

Again, it's NOT pinking. The load would be higher in the higher gear, so more likely to pink in 5th than 4th.

I *still* think this is some minor unidentified rattle, probably the cat heat shield.

It's got a Cat shield which is rattly, but the rattle is not quite the same as the pinking. Actually I think I've got used to the cat shield and I think I block it out. I don't think different ignition leads would effect the rattle of the cat shield anyway!

Intermittent misfire, now followed by constant misfire sound a ropy coil initially, that is gradually dying. Especially as it was at first heat related, and then laer didn't need to be.

Peter, do you have a pair of soft soled narrow trainers? What do you normall drive in. If I have to drive in my boots, or a pair of shoes, I lose all feel of the clutch and the heel doesn't move as easily with the pedal.

If I'm in trainers it's fine.

Then give it gas earlier before raising clutch pedal. The car might sound louder for a second or two, but once you hav fluid fairly quick take ups, you can work on improving the timeing/balance.
