Jubilee clips

Whilst removing the intake manifold on a 205 GTi, I noticed the abundance of types of hose clip. Given previous owners tendencies to bodge these cars, I am curious to know what the correct fittings are.

I have noticed 7mm nut types, and a type with no nut that I have no idea how to fit or remove. Are these interchangeable? How do I fit and remove the latter type?

If the parts diagram doesn't show a clip, can I assume that a clip isn't needed? For example, lots of oil breather hoses have a clip on my car (usually in an awful place to undo), but on the parts diagram, there is no clip.

These latter are once-only, fitted at the factory. You have to cut them off and replace with adjusrable ones.

Dunno. Ther answer may depend on where and what car. I would imagine that, in general, hoses need clips. But there may be instances where there is little or no pressure and the hose will remain in place without a clip.

Things like vacuum hoses often don't have clips. Which is fine 'till the rubber hardens slightly.

Are you saying that it is worth putting clips where there were none? I remember a discussion on Jagforums that clips could be worse than none in some cases, although perhaps this related to some fuel lines that were designed to be clip-less.

Interesting, i wonder how come clipped could be worse than non. Apart from a badly applied one crushing something.
