Peugeot 405 reversing light connectors

Do you have a spare connector with 2 white wires? Just wonder what it could be for, if its spare then I'm Ok with that. Gits who changed the clutch must have put the wrong connector onto the gearbox. It had an MOT shortly after but reverse lights are not part of the test.

They wouldn't have the experience with the issues that arise on older cars to do anything other than rip you off.

Buy a voltmeter (£10) and see what happens to the voltage on the wires around the gearbox when you change in and out of reverse with the ignition on. Also check if there is a voltage at the bulb holder (sometimes dirt can stop the bulb lighting). A circuit diagram in a Haynes manual will give clues as to which colour wires to poke.

If you can't solve the problem or live with it, take the car to an auto electrician.

Thanks for the replies. I changed over the connector and the reversing lights now work. The other connector seems to be for a low oil warning light which my model does not have. Plonkers who changed the clutch just fitted the closest connector to hand.

Success - well pleased (auto electricians @ £40 an hour are only for really serious stuff) had visions of renewing wiring etc. running the length of the car.

Reversing lights seem to serve more as a warning for other car users and pedestrians as I have noticed some adverse reaction to my lack of lights the past few weeks. Just as well its not on the MOT list!
