Range Rover (TD5) fuel tempsensor query

Our Range Rover (TD5) is very hard starting when its hot, It takes ages to start then I get a cloud a black smoke, then its OK. Cold starting is first time every time. I have been told that the fuel temperature sensor is usually the culprit. Can anyone please tall me where it is and how to replace it? Thank You.

There is no such thing as a Range Rover TD5, unless its been modified, Either you mean a TD6 (New RR 2002-to date) or its a 2.5l BMW diesel (RR

1994-2002) If it is the older version then it is more than likely that when the engin is warm you have low commpression, and I bet it starts fine when cold because the glow plugs work when cold. What you can do: You can either take the engine apart (new rings, re seat the valves etc...)and make the commpression better (expensive) or you can wire up a seperate "extra" switch (which you would have to manually operate) for the glow plugs when the engine is warm(cheap & quick)
