Renault Megane heated seats

They're probably the firing wires for seat belt pretensioners...

They could be the explosive seatbelt pre-tensioners.

Ooh, err. Yeah, I'd forgotten about all these newfangled safety devices. Actually, it occurs to me that there are side airbags build into the seats as well - the wires may go to those as well. So no heated seats, then :-(

Those will be the wires for the pyro seatbelt tensioners and side cushion airbags if fitted.

It being a Renault, and it being and auto- hope you have some warranty...? Don't want to be a wet fish but the auto box on the meganes / scenics and lagunas is quite problematic..

So I've heard :-(, but the car was very cheap. The alternative was a Toyota Corrolla, but it was £2000 more expensive for basically the same spec car. Also, I'd heard that *some* automatics can cause problems, not necessarilty all. Only bought 6 months warranty - was offered 2 years, but I have a feeling the auto box will probably be OK for a couple of years. As a matter of interest, what sort of mileage can one expect to do before the auto box develops problems? It's a 1.6 16v engine, with a 4 speed auto box. Currently 39000 miles. How much is a replacement box. I'm guessing over £1000?

There seems to be no pattern to failure- a neighbour in the village's W plate 1.8 scenic with 20,000 miles on it has just gone in for possible 'box replacement, whereas the other neighbours 2 litre S plate with 80k on it is fine! (There are 4 scenic autos in the village- once one got one, they multiplied!!)

Replacement box is well over £1500, so you don't want to have to do that! An annual fluid change would probably be very wise and cheap hopefully preventitive maintanance... And DO NOT change direction whilst you're moving-at all- its the clutch packs and drum that break up causing the problems...
