I have a 1998 Renault Scenic Alize 1600. It's started revving to up to 4000revs of its own accord when idling, without any acceleration. It used to just do it when hot, now it's all the time The local garage says it could be the lamder sensor but when it's disconnected, it still happens. anyone any ideas?

Throttle body might need cleaning ?
could be one to those things that needs hooking up to a computer to get a fault code from the ecu but thats all beyond me. Some know it all will be around soon enough :-)
Is this the 1.6e single point engine? If so, you have a duff idle switch on the end of the stepper motor rod. Alas you'll need to replace the stepper motor assembly to fix it.
Tim..
On b**ger, that sounds as if it's going to be expensive
I bought a stepper motor for a Pug 1.6 a few years back. £95 or so inc VAT.
