should I get my servicing parts from Ford or Motor Factor's?

Hi there,

I am going to attempt a DIY service on my Capri 280. Do we think I should go to Ford for my various filters and other service items, or would I be just as good going to a Motor factor's, who, I presume, will sell me cheaper non-Ford items.

Many thanks for any advice.

They may not be that much cheaper. The genuine oil filter is only likely to be about £7, a pattern might be £5. A small price for peace of mind IMHO.

Air and fuel filters aren't so critical, but you'll find that Motorcraft plugs will work better in a Ford. At the least get Bosch ones.

Get a decent oil, and I'd probably look for a thicker one for the Capri too - at least a 15-40. Brand isn't critical, Castrol, Duckhams, Shell and Millers are all well respected. Mobil mineral oil is pants though.

Don't bother with fully symthetic in this either, it's far too late for that. Get a very good quality mineral oil (Millers is probably the best), or a semi-synthetic.
