You're right, transporting the goods home is not really the concern of the supermarkets. Transporting a car sold as 'spares or repair' wouldn't be the concern of a dealership either if the car wasn't actually driven away. What Top Gear were implying was that you could just drive away with your £1 car.

Supermarkets wouldn't sell products without a warranty, even if implied. You wouldn't buy a can of baked beans if the supermarket said that they didnt know whether they were safe to eat or not and that you would take the risk.

That's the risk you have to take - it's essentially the same as buying privately. Except I payed less than private prices.

Engines don't 'fall out' at the end of the road for no reason. Only those who are capable of checking a car over should even dream of buying an 'as seen' vehicle, unless they are willing to take a big gamble. So saying, I'd gamble on that sort of car rather more willingly than the banger which has been tarted up for sale.

Don't know if anyone remembers deals on wheels but one of the presenters bought an XR2i on a sold as seen trade sale basis. It can be found often repeated on Discovery H+L I think.

Once he got in into the workshop he found it needed loads for the MOT so it went to the auction house with a list of faults.

He did point out though that you should only buy on this basis if you know what you are doing.

I think that last statement is the key point. A point that was missed out by Top Gear.
