Hear! Hear!
Hear! Hear!
Wow.. never been switched off...
;-)
There's a stupid fucktrard in one of the alt.comp newsgroups asking how to use thermal tape he's bought because he doesn't understand the instructions. You NEED instructions to work out how to peel off two bits of plastic film?
No we don't teach it, we suffer from it as much as everyone else. Kids are used to having everything handed to them on a plate. It would be nice to leave them to flounder, but teachers are under such pressure to get results we tend to end up handing them even more.
For example, by rights, over half my ICT students should fail because they simply can't be bothered to find themselves a piece of "non-ICT information" (eg an information leaflet) for their coursework. In practice, my colleagues and I will pick up a bundle of leaflets, put them on the desk and tell the kids to pick the one which best fits their project. Because in September it will by _my_ neck on the block if we don't get at least 60% of our students to achieve a pass grade.
Just one simple example. I could give loads...
Its a 2000 model focus zetec TD DI. we not managed to empty fuel yet but will let you know how we get on. Any handy hints?
I never realised men suffered PMT malc! you really should try evening primrose oil!!!
It was one of my more stupid moments I agree. I'm not stupid as a rule, I even got a degree in linguistics and can translate swahili....put the pumps weren't in swahilian.I may have coped better.
Thanks for your help, it's greatly apreciated. Good to know these groups are here for a reason.
Thanks for your help.............greatly appreciated!
To those who know the answer, when especially the answer is obvious (to them, that is), the enquirer looks stupid and appears to rely on others' help perhaps too readily. To the enquirer though, it is completely bewildering; he/she is literally 'lost' wandering 'directionless' for the destination is blind to him/her; there is no object to aim for, to focus on.
This actually happened, I witnessed it myself: There was once an enquirer who, when preparing for a clean install of the Window OS and looking at the bottom of the screen reading the instruction, "Press any key to start downloading from the CD...", asked which key was the "Any" key.
Teaching self-reliance doesn't help, better instruction does.
Must have read one of my tags. ;-)
Actually getting people to think for themselves works wonders.
Not unless i`m swapping out hardware (i`ve had at least one machine on
24/7 since 1993, with the exception of 2 weeks when I rewired the house)
May I just add that the removal of the film is exactly what Microsoft failed to do with the early eX-POX360s' which caused the overheating problem...
Just to qualify my other reply...
Of course men suffer from PMT, second hand suffering I'll admit.
I put 5 gallons in, and I pulled over 8 miles down the road, after realising that wasn't what you meant. Have I done any damage?
We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold. I remember Ian Stirling saying something like:
No, but your diesel pump will smell lovely and be less liable to bite your head off.
You may find the brakes a little less aggressive.
Tea ---> screen.
