If you drove less than a mile, and the engine didn't start to sound unusual, you've almost certainly got away with it. As you drove home the car ran on the fuel which was in the pipes and the filter, which was the correct fuel. The petrol probably hasn't reached the pump which is the expensive bit.

if it wa running ok wen you parked it then as a rule if they get it drained well including the lines and the filter then it should be ok although a bit smokey for a bit if you had run it till its conked out then the problem would have been worse

It just shows how many helpless idiots there are in the world now. Being helpless and expecting everyone else to do everything must be taught in schools now. They can find their way to a newsgroup but don't have the common sense to check what they're putting in a car. At least it wasn't the usual "a mate of mine" type posting! It proves some people shouldn't be let loose near a car, the worst combination seems to be female and thick or male and old. Boy racers never have cars that move fast enough to be included.

We all had to start somewhere. I'd personally rather they ask than hurt themselves or someone else. Common sense only works with a firm foundation of knowledge to support it.

I agree there's a modern problem with lack of mechanical intuition and competence. But let's not attack those trying to do something about it.
