Sounds like I need to replace the clutch in the Vectra, as the missus has just rang to say she can't engage reverse and I have noticed for a while the clutch is snatching.
Is it a big job and is it competant DIYers job ?, do you need any special tools ?

On older Vauxhalls (Cavalier type) you could change the clutch in about forty minutes as the complete assembly could be pulled down via a removeable panel in the transmission housing. Don't know about these new fangled doodahs. Clutch specialist near me will do the job quickly and charge between £100-small car to £220-my Xantia hdi (and it's a big heavy lump to play with). DaveK.
Not really a DIY job. The front subframe needs to be removed/lowered, and the gearbox removed. You would need to have an engine support bar that sits on the inner wing flanges and holds the engine up whilst you remove the subframe from below. Nowhere near as easy as the old Cav's and Astra's!
