Volvo v70 diesel Manifold

Nov 13, 2006 2 Replies

The exhaust manifold gasket on my 98 Volvo v70 diesel is blowing a bit

I have had a quick look but it does not look easy to replace

Any advice as to how big a job this may be and what is involved

It looks like you have to uncouple the bottom joint from beneath the car, then move everything out of the way in the engine bay (i.e. top engine mount, brake master cylinder & associated pipework, plus a couple of other pipes) to make room for it to come out upwards. Certainly not the easiest of operations! OTOH, since you don't need it to come out altogether to replace the gasket, perhaps you can just move it clear of the exhaust ports. There is a flexible joint at the bottom of the manifold which might just allow you enough movement.
