What engine?

Dec 30, 2004 4 Replies

Hi guys, since my last post (Pug Trouble) I decided to change the plugs and leads on my 406. Problem is that I seem to have bought a 2000 car that is right on the model change ( seems to be almost every car I have bought )

Does anyone know how to tell what engine my car has as there are 2 different

1.8 engines and each seem to require a different spark plug. I tried to dig out the V5 to check exact capacity, but my wife is away at present and I havent a clue where it is.

Are there some less subtle changes that happened at the same time?

Thanks guys

The VIN is on the car (in 2 or 3 places usually, I think). Quoting that to a Peugeot dealer might produce the answer.

Peugeot dealers will know.

or:

search the engine for a small metal plate with a number similar to: (for 16 valve) xu7jp4 (lfy) then check the make of the injection system bosch or sagem. ew7jp4 (6fz)

or 8valve: xu7jb (lfx)

Any Peugeot garage will be able to access all that data from the registration number. Just phone one up.

why not pull a plug out and have a look?
