Stalling or Cutout of Engine When Shifting Low Gear

Feb 26, 2008 2 Replies

Has anyone owning a Miata had the following problem or know what is causing our problem. After traveling for an hour plus or so and then stopping and starting as you go through heavy traffic and numerous red lights in 80 degree plus temperetures the car stalls out as you shift into 1st or 2nd gear. While in neutral the engines still runs but as soon as you put it in gear it stalls out. After the car cools down, 3 or 4 hours to overnight, the car works just fine again. This is a 2003 Miata.

A wild guess would be a cam or crank sensor with a temperature problem.

I'd check the cooling system...and the clutch cylinders.
