In theory, yes, in practice, it's often not the case. Certainly isn't in the Alfa V6 installation. It's a tad more complex, though, 'cos even if there is a bid more clearance than there is for an inline transverse 4, there's all the added complexity of threading a V6 belt through which makes it a pain - especially to the rear bank, which is where it's not unknown for mechanics to cut corners and not replace vital idlers / tensioners.
Obviously, this is specific to a certain V6, so YMMV.
But I stick by not buying cheap FWD V6s as cheap runabouts.
