Now all I have to do is make it a bit better under the hood... as it is slow compared to the metro.. lol I know you don't need a cabriolet for speed but it would be nice.. Something with a turbo would be better though.

Then I need a new exhaust system and some un kerbed wheels.. ( Previous driver has managed to do all but one of the wheels)

Hmm, I've just been offered a bloody gorgeous Mk1 Golf GTi cabriolet, but can't decide how much it's worth.

E reg, black with black hood, slightly lowered, nice wheels (15 or 16" inch, but look just right), very *VERY* clean, not been used for about a year.

So quite probably no tax or test :-D.. the only way I seem to buy cars lately.

It's the nicest Mk1 Cabriolet I've seen in years, I'm thinking, oooh, £600..

Question for the Golfisti (is that what Steve H is when he's in his Golf, instead of a Nissanisti)..

Can you fit 3 point rear seatbelts in a Mk1 Cabriolet? It's got lap straps, but that's it..

I don't claim to be an expert, or anything remotely resembling one, but if that's all good and doesn't need anything major doing, then I'd say £600 is a bargain. On that program on the telly where they buy cars, do them up and flog them on (not Wrecks to Riches, the one on, I think, Granada Men + Motors), they sold a very clean Mk1 Gti Cabriolet that they'd done up to pretty much mint (and completely original) on there for about £1600.

If you can get it for that, then it's an absolute bargain.

I thought mine was a bargain at £500, complete with microblistered paint on the bonnet, shagged roof and tatty interior. However, it's completely rot-free (well, apart from the spare wheel well, but they all do that, often) and has the ultra-desirable and quite rare Mk1 Pirelli alloys (not to be confused with the ones fitted to the Scirocco and MkII Golf)

I'm _sure_ mine has 3-pointers in the rear. It's too dark to have a look at the moment, but I'll try and remember to look tomorrow.

If it ain't a bargain, I'm highly unlikely to buy it...

although tonight I've been looking at an 88 E plate XJ6 for £1k and it seems almost worth it. :-|

Heh! I'm like that. Somehow I ended up paying £350 for a tatty M plate

1.8D Fiesta van though (+£60 for a pair of tyres and £165 for tax)! Still, I've done around 4000 trouble free miles in it, so it hasn't been too bad. Doesn't look like anyone on this group's interested at £500 (including the tax - no offers), so I'll chuck it on ebay without the tax and then I can 'upgrade' to the Maestro van that's currently littering my mate's street :-)

Noooooooooo! Get the Golf! Just after posting the other post I did a search on Autotrader - cheapest one is £1250, but there are *loads* upwards of £2k, definitely well worth it.
