Black Phase 1 Rallye, with 106 GTi / Saxo VTS engine and box.

These:

Ported and polished head.

Janspeed four branch manifold, decat and stainless pipe - bloody loud, and I've driven it before and after the decat took place - made a noticable difference.

Induction, we're still tweaking.

Unlocked, chipped ECU with the rev limiter moved to 8k.

White 15" alloys of some description - not sure what they're called, but they look the part.

Like I say, it bloody shifts, and is an absolute hoot to drive. :-D

Once the induction seems as good as we can get it, I'm going to suggest he coughs up for a rolling road session just to see how much poke it actually has.

He's still got all the original 1.3 running gear and wheels, which we've discovered is worth a fair bit as well.

Rover died because it's management leeched all the money away for=20 personal use.

Only new ones. Up until the Facelift Mk3 Cavalier they were alright=20 (altho you may find the residents here will disagree, but personally I=20 always liked Vauxhall).

Erm, yes actually. Go look up Rover 200, 600 and 800 Turbos plus the Rover 75 V8.

A direct comparison isn't really possible with the VXR as it was=20 introduced after the Rover Turbos were phased out (Vauxhall were just=20 playing catch up, they abandoned turbocharging 10 years earlier with the=20 demise of the Mk3 Cavalier...).

I wouldn't laugh if I were you. With a Vauxhall one day very soon you'll=20 turn around and find yourself in the same position... :)

Christ, don't let this lot hear you say that, half of them think you're weird if you don't want to drive something thats noisy and s**te but apparently has 'character', whatever the f*ck that is :)

Second car I owned after passing my test was a '86 Metro 1.0 Huge amounts of fun (I was only 17) and no reliability problems despite being pushed quite hard. Altho I did tend to go through quite a few points.

First car was a Chevette 1.3, slow as f*ck but rwd and it was an estate so I could get about 10 people in at a time :)

Didn't think you were - I like Vauxhalls, I just don't think much to the build quality of modern ones.

I don't particularly like the 216GTi, I just recognise that is was quite a decent hot hatch for the day with a surprisingly potent engine. To dismiss it because it's old would be quite uncharacteristic for this group - I thought most people here supported old s**te.
