I think you need to reassess how to go about getting a speeding ticket. Hooning past one in a 30 limit with 50 on the clock will do.

A better car? Perhaps. But it's also extremely dull to look at. As in really really dull. The Ka polarises opinions - most people love it or hate it, but the equivalent generation Fiesta is forgettable.

The engine is a much better tool for hooning about but by 2001 it was utterly gutless under 3,500 rpm. Guess where the engine revs are for most ordinary driving? When the compressor kicks in with under 3,000 rpm it's not good.

Ford changed injection / ECU to Siemans as I recall, and these donks are, well, nowhere near as good as the earlier ones.

And marginally more torque, at a much higher engine speed.

Power sells. Torque moves. The 1.25 is certainly a quicker machine and they're good fun in isolation to drive about in, but the shape is forgettable and you need a 1.4 or 1.6 to get an equivalent chassis.

By the time you've moved up to this, the concept of an inexpensive to insure runner is lost somewhere back there.

Quieter? When cruising it has that appalling banal "modern engine noise." :-/

I think if you're going to cast judgement, you need to drive the Ka back to back with the competition (Lupo, Siecento, 106) then with some of the larger choices (Polo, Fiesta, 206). Being given a ride in one is a bit like seeing Britney Spears in concert then bragging about how good a shag she is.
