I would buy a 300bhp Saab for the few times I could use it. My driving is mainly rush hour commutes. But occasionally everyone else forgets to get up, or I take a half day, and get a clear road, or go drive somewhere rural. For those few days, the power is worth it, because the rest of the time, it is in reserve should that kind of need arrive. I like to drive a car that I only use 50-66% of what it does. I don't want to be at 99% all the time. Something extra for the weekend as it were.

If you had 300bhp, then you would use them on a regular basis. You know it, and I know it :)
Not really. I've driven two crs arround the 200BHP (saab a little below, Celica a little above). I don't use anywhere near the power they can put out.
I very rarely exceed speed limits by much. But I like to get there as quickly as I can then settle into a nice solid cruise. And that just happens to be the most economical way of suing a turbocar.
Hmmm, I'm thinking you should be getting better economy than you do then ? You oughtta be able to improve *plenty* on my ~25mpg.
We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold. I remember "Pete M" saying something like:
Same with big Jap bike engines. If you cruise at a steady 60, you can get 60mpg out of most of them and die of boredom in the process.
Generally, efficiency works both ways, but not both at the same time.
