I reckon this is the barge bargain for anyone wanting a V8

Yours had comedy suspension and was worth a few hundred quid, that's why I liked it. The thought of paying above a grand for something that Jap doesn't appeal (although, as always, the MX-5, Impreza / Legacy Turbo and a couple of others are worth considering).

The Lexus is just somewhere for Toyota Corolla owners to go "OOoh, I've got one of those switches".

Oh no it isn't. Did you know Lexus actually have a man whose sole job is testing the switches in the LS to make sure they have a "Pleasing feel" when operated. All he does all day test switches for action, sound and touch feel.

I suppose you could also argue that until recently Landrover/Jaguar/Aston Martin was just somewhere for Mondeo/Sierra/Escort/Focus owners to do the same. Infact you found far more Mondeo/Focus parts in an Aston/Jaguar than you did Corolla parts in a LS.

But the Landrover/Jaguar/Aston aren't Jap, so they're infinately more interesting in every way than an LS :-p

Yeah, the lower model parts are harder to spot when the vehicle moves. Which is something a Landrover/Aston/Jaguar can struggle to do.

I love how Astons sometimes just sit there and display "gearbox" fault when you try to force them to do something as complicated as change from D to R.

My boss has an SC430, he sold it to get a DB9. He loves it, but he went through quite a culture shock to find a car costing 3 times the cost of SC creaked more, rattled more, and sometimes refused to go anywhere. The SC in an Apple mac fashion "just worked".

But they're fun when they *do* move, which is infinately better than being something that's dull all of the time.

Astons were never reliable, although they became a bit less unreliable when Ford bought them - as did Jaguar and Land Rover.

I can't abide Apple Macs either.

Oh, and is there an uglier car than an SC430 available in Western Europe? I certainly can't think of one with the possible exception of the Ssang Yong Hideous.

I love the Soarer/SC series, but the comedy amputee spec rear seats in the 430 made me laugh.

I actually quite like the Scorpio in top spec form.

Fuck me, there's a change of direction for SteveH if ever there was one!

I wonder what a car by SteveH would actually be like.

A car by me would be made to fit me. Most people would struggle to reach the pedals and see over the dashboard. Luckily, the options list would include a bespoke cushion. I'd start a fashion label, initially selling bags to keep these cushions in when you're not driving to show other discering drivers that you have exquisite taste.

It'd have a 7 Cylinder engine, a mini weather station, the clock would show GMT+5mins and it'd come equipped with a compass-type device built into the dash which always points to the Tower at PayneHQ.

Yeah... I saw that episode of the Simpsons, too.

Douglas Payne gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying:

SWMBO insists on that... WHY? WHY?

Yeah but you don't need to look at the front when you are driving it.

Just be careful what you wish for!
