Hello,

QVC were selling a butane powered hot glue gun on the telly the other day. (No doubt people from the "barryboys" site snapped them up quick - be sure to post a pic when you have finished.) Out of interest, why fit a spoiler to a car that wasn't supplied with one? It's not as if it will enhance performance. You might actually slow yourself down as a lot of the boy racers do when they fit hideous looking spoilers.

Hello,

Maybe in your opinion it should come with a spoiler, but it didn't and one was fitted - so that is classed as a "modification" by the insurance company. If any modification isn't declared then the insurance is invalid and anyone without insurance leaves themselves open to prosecution. It wouldn't cost that much extra anyway if the modification was declared. A lot of boy racers make the mistake of not being correctly covered by insurance and take no notice of the terms of the agreement. There are some firms that specialise in cars with extra bits glued/bolted on and will insure people. They're usually younger people in 1litre or "really fast" 1.2litre cars with so much plastic and body filler slapped on them that they rarely reach 70 because of all the additional weight. They look silly anyway.

Why do you insist on continuously posting here you bottom dwelling sewer loach? This is uk.rec.cars.modifications - for the discussion of modifying cars - if you don't like modifying cars, why are you really? Are you really such a pathetic piece of distended rectum, that you have nothing better to that post to usenet, on something you know nothing about, abusing a hobby other people are interested it?

Fuck of you puss-filled scotum sack.

Audi didn't fit a spoiler to the TT at first now virtually every TT has one, quite a lot fitted after market by Audi themselves.

I think it's pot luck really mate. I wouldn't drastically worry about it as it will probably be fine. But on the other hand, there is a very slim chance they might bugger you for it.

When I wrote off my Gen1 Hyundai Coupe 1.6i last year the insurance company never once questioned the fact it had Leather seats (nabbed from a Gen2 SE coupe from the scrappies), and 15" alloys. Admittedly these weren't boy racer mods as they were Team dynamics alloys (which Hyundai used to use a lot of apparently) and genuine coupe seats. So unless you were really up on your coupe's you wouldn't know it wasn't stock. But nonetheless it certainly wasn't factory fit.

Either they didn't notice, or didn't deem it an issue. But I'm sure the insurance companies would do anything to get out of a total loss claim...

I don't think it matters either way actually. Tell them, and they might bump your premium up by £20 if at all. Don't tell them, and there's a 99% chance they'll never know anyway, as it's quite a discreet detail.

Yeah it's hardly a bad mod I am doing, and its an Audi fitted part, I am going for the S4 look but without the hefty price tag and fuel consumption.

As for insurance, I will tell them when I renew, but its not as if i am putting a whale tail on a nova is it?

Your mods were (almost) entirely aesthetic, not directly contributory like removing 60mm of suspension travel...

Perhaps your insurers might have argued the toss but they would know that you were in a position to argue that your mods were not.

Approach them on a "do I need to inform you of?" basis and I suspect the problem will go away.

Erm, it's a standard Audi spoiler (ok, a copy), that has been fitted to several A4s as a factory option anyway. And it improves the looks of the car no end in that particular model car IMHO. It's not as if he's fitted a massive Cossie-style whale-tail or anything.

If you weren't being a complete dumbass, you'd have realised that I *did* read his post, including the bit quoted above

I have no idea what an "original S4 lip spoiler" is - hence my question.

Clearly if I'd known he was referring to a spoiler without legs, then I wouldn't have asked !

You numpty.

Course you shouldn't - don't be silly !

So ?

They have no way of knowing that it didn't come with said spoiler, and that said spoiler was fitted by Ronny !

...PROVIDING THEY CAN DETECT SAID MODIFICATION.

If it's invisible, then it's quite obviously not going to invalidate the insurance. Unless they're psychic, they aren't gonna invalidate your policy for something they don't know about !

Good job that isn't the case here.

So ?

So ?

What do "boy racers" have to do with anything ?

Please keeps your posts On Topic, to minimise confusion.

We know.

What does that have to do with anything.

AGAIN, please keeps your posts On Topic, to minimise confusion.

Not half as silly as you look, by posting your tripe here !

Ah, so it kinda mounts to the same bit of the boot-lid, that my 405 one did. Open your boot, and take a look at the inside of the lid. You might find some handy factory-mounting-points, as I did !

Not at all - there are approximately one billion different fitments of rear spoiler/wing/fin/lip. Depending on whether there are legs or not, whether it's simply a little ridge, whether it mounts at the top of the roof (hot-hatch style), etc. etc.

Clearly they don't all mount in the same way :)

Um, this is an aesthetic discussion - the actual effects of the devices, isn't in question :)
