Oh FFS, someone talk me out of this one.

Matt black, patch welded arches, proper roof chop and a flamer. Damn. It looks just so right. Just needs a tint kit, and moon discs, and a V8.

I'm glad one fo the other Retro Rides guys wants it. I would castated if I turned up in that. Would be sweet with a leather, carbon, and brushed ali interior, and a decent Car PC, with airbag suspension though. Rough as Salford tart on the outside, and like the space shuttle once in. Would be just perfect.

'Just'?

Bead blasting back to bare metal on that would reveal all sorts of horrors. Seriously, run away as fast as possible - it's a rotten heap of scrap.

No it wouldn't.

To be fair - I don't think it should be for sale, more, anyone want this so I don't have to pay to scrap it...

I don't think it's all that bad to be honest. Ok, it's not pretty, but it's unlikely to be utterly shagged. Those old Ovlovs tend to be pretty bloody solid underneath. He says it needs some welding, but it's nearly 40 years old and I like the roof chop.

Agree with you on that bit. I'd leave it scruffy - but in primer, lob in the biggest V8 I can make fit and just smoke round in it for a grin.

Ideal for taking to concours events.

I think the area where the C-pillar meets the roof and wings looks

*very* suspect.

That is just nasty weld with rough paint. If you look at the arch, it is actually about as authentic original leadsled as you could get without cutting up a merc.

Theory being get back from the war. Take one old car cheap, strip everything off that isn't needed. Tune the engine up, to the point of spitting flames on over-run. Cut the roof and body down so that it sits as low as possible and then lower it so it looks aerodynamic (50's idea of aerodynamics remember), don't bother to clean up the welds. Paint over it to stop it rusting. Most likely as a lot of cars were still model T fords, a lot of the paint would be black, and the primer would be matt black too. If it was there it would do.

Hence why a lot of early rods/sleds were grey or black primered. The star spangled hot rods and customs like Daddy Roth built, and and Von Dutch (yes the Von Dutch) striped didn't appear until the very, very late 50's and the drug enduced 60's.

That is about as pure hotrod as you can get.

He is selling because he needs to. Someone has actually taken time to spray that matt black, and repair the rusty wheelarch.

If it had been neglected, a bit of filler or some gaffer tape would have been used to get it through it's MOT.

That roof chop including the cut down glass would have taken weeks to get that right, if not months.

that cr is a work of distressed art. Longer MOT and I would have been fighting with the guy who interested.

Oh no, I like my interior comforts. To me, decent interior work is some of the best parts of modifying. Don't like body kits, decent paint is cool, performance tuning is fantastic but bumps up the insurance.

but for me, looking at the outside that looks like a mobile toilet (theft proof) but like a palace on the inside is so satisfying. And it just happens to be what I'm half decent at.

rods at their finest.http://images.google.co.uk/images?q=Rat%20Rod&hl=en&lr=&safe=off&sa=N&tab=wi Christ on a bike, kids today, "if it don't shine it is shit" The ultimate rat rod finish is to take an unpainted body, let it get coated evenly in overnight/one week surface rust, then wax it to slow down the rust going any further. More popular in warmer countries were they don't get amny rain.

That's *slightly* different to pigeon shit welds and gobs of filler to cover up the very obviously rotten C-pillar..... if you rolled that you'd have the roof off it as it went over.

Clue.

To chop stuff, you very often have to piss about with the pillars.

It's not as easy as it looks.

That's obvious from the s**te job that's been done on that Volvo.

Thats a bit of a bugger.

Always. Either you add metal to the body to reach the now narrower pillar. Or you widen the now shorter pillar to line up with the original body line. or a combo of both.

Shiney show cars need to be smooth. Rat rods don't.

It's not a rat rod. It's a Volvo.
