Go away. You had two saabs ... two chances ... and now you got a lexus. How can you want a SAAB when you bought a Lexus?

Sadly I never worked with the fuel-burny end of the aircraft. I spent my time playing with the electronicky display end of things. Umm and bits that were tad less user-friendly. Or is that less recipient-friendly?

As you know , I get a car allowance and that's just about covered all = the costs of buying and running my Octavia for the last three years = without having to dip into my salary. This time round though I wanted to go for something a bit cheaper and = pocket the change so this should do the job nicely.

After three years I reckon I may have at least =A35k more in my bank = balance compared to buying another Octavia and that's quite a = difference.

I had one as a hire car for a few days when my Passat broke down 18 months ago.

It was a 1.9-120 JTD, not sure of the spec., - but it had quite a lot of toys, comfortable seats and a decent stereo.

The only thing that stopped me from buying one myself is the lack of an auto / sequential robotised box on the diesels - and I'm starting to suffer with some fairly serious left knee pain and stiffness since going back to a manual.

Just working on occupational health now to get myself an auto - which will more than likely be a run-out MkII Prius, as there aren't any spare autos in the fleet - shame, as I could have swapped the Focus for a Passat 1.9TDI-SE if I didn't mind a manual.

On the other hand to dismiss the Lexus for being dull and nowhere near as quick as it should be... completely misses the point of the IS200.

That needs to be put into perspective.

The "real" Jaguars were all rather limp wristed. On the warmer summer days in former West Germany, the Jaguar pukes had to use a touch of 'burner as they turned the corner to line up for the approach.

Good point. Although lots of Audi drivers wouldn't consider a Saab. Lots of Saab drivers wouldn't consider a Saab. Plenty of people don't care about the badge or buy a BMW...

If the point is to build a car with a chav's wet dream for an interior, with vaguely Mercedes-esque styling, and a thirsty 6-pot that's slower than the equivalent BMW, then they've got it spot on.....
