Sig Change (Pending)

I appear to have bought a 156 2.0 Veloce 2 Selespeed Sportwagon.

Black, with tan leather.

56 plate, but some kind of dodgy import that sat around in a warehouse for a few years before sale, but only 9.7 miles and 1 owner from new.

Bargain-tastic price, too.

Collecting this weekend.....

Sillyspeed?

Well done on actually choosing something though :-)

Steve H gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying:

Am I recalling various "Somebody else's bargepole" posts about Selespeeds?

G'wan...

Does it include having all the belts, tyres etc replaced?

I thought you didn't do sillyspeed at any price. Wasn't a hire car in the channel island, rather than hiding in a warehouse was it?

And will you be informing the insurance it is an import rather than a standard UK spec car?

About bloody time you ran a petrolheads' machine for your usual vehicle.

I wouldn't touch Sillyspeed with yours, so you've made a brave decision. A heartfelt good luck with it.

Sounds nice other than the sillyspeed box. Momo leather I presume? S'nice that.

The tyres in my car rotate every time I go somewhere! These bloody dodgy Italian imports.....

If it's under 2 years old then surely it'll have some manufacturer's warranty left? Though I'm guessing it'll be a 2 year manufacturer's warranty as opposed to 2 + 1 manufacturer+dealer jobbie.

People who bought import Clio Sports got the full 3 years warranty, and the AA cover as normal. Some said they had to ring customer services to sort it out - which was painless and easy - and some said they rang up and it was already all sorted.

There y'go Steve - should'a bought a Clio :-)

It's enforced, really - V6s are too thirsty and 159 Qtronics too pricey.

Heh, the manuals are in some funny furrin letters.

It's standard UK spec, being a Veloce 2. So they don't need to know - the usual question is 'Standard UK spec?' - although if anyone specifically mentions 'import', I'll have to disclose it.

On the other hand, it came in via the EU, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Well, obviously. But I was more suggesting that he may indeed have some warranty - especially if the firm that first sold it, presumably a supermarket who had a job lot or something, were decent and sorted it out on sale.

Yup, tan Momo leather seats and door card inserts.

I didn't really want a Sillyspeed - but I did want a mongbox.

If I wanted an Alfa for work, I had no choice.

The plan at the moment is to run it for 1-2 years, pass it on to Katie, by which time the 159 2.4 JTDm Qtronic or Brera 2.4 JTDm Qtronic will be affordable.

To be honest, the tight northerner kicked in, meaning that I just had to buy it, as it was a silly price.

Alfa Imports, to this day, come with a 2 year Alfa warranty, unfortunately.

Which means it's covered until 4th October.....

LOL. I love the "the keys just sort of fell into my pocket, dear" attitude of it.

Is it worth taking the risk? Why not just tell them anyway to remove all doubt if you don't think it makes a difference?

It's your responsibility to tell them about anything that could effect the quote, not theirs to ask. By not telling them you're risking giving them the opportunity to wash their hands of you should you need to make a claim.

TBH, I don't remember Alfa having a UK factory.

Best break it sooner than later, then ;-)

Didn't they make... oh as you were.

Unless they ask something like "is it a UK model" or somesuch...

That's a thing - what exactly would happen if it was written off in the first few weeks? Obviously the insurance company almost certainly wouldn't give you the full book value of a regular 56-plater - could get complicated. I'd tell 'em. In fact, at the risk of sounding like you, Steve, I'd have asked before buying the thing. It's not like you'll have been the first person to want to insure a car that's a few model years older than the plate suggests, due to it sitting in a field/duck pond/etc for a few years first.
