Six fascinating facts and some dark skeletons from Lordy.UK's closet!

  1. Lordy's real name is Phil Web.

  1. Lordy used to be a serious computer geek more into computer games than cars.

As this old post shows:

Just how do I decide where the "camera" will be and where it will point when

a level ends?
> I assume it has something to do with the worldspawn, but using Worldcraft,
> I've never seen any way to decide it's postion or angle...

It's just an entity you put in there, exactly the same as an RL, box of

rockets or whatever.

It's called info_intermission. Just place it where you want and set the

angle as you would any other entity in Worldcraft.

Dear, oh dear.

  1. Lordy used to sign himself off on Usenet as Overlord.UK

  1. Lordy was Chief Admin of the UK Quake World Custom Map League

  2. Lordy once hosted website

    sadly now defunct :-(

  1. Lordy once slagged off Ford XR owners on Usenet namely:

"But that's another bad point against it. No-one in their right mind wants

the image of an XR driver...

Ah well, few more years under the belt and it will become clear :) "

In summnation I'd find it slightly less embarrassing to be known to drive an XR2/3/4/6/8 than to be known as the Overlord of the UK Quake World Custom Map League!

k.

I'm not convinced you're the real Chris 'Ken' Stevens you know... Your posting style seemed wrong, and you were far too accurate with your spelling and grammar.

Or it could be the real Ken, but actually taking his meds..

If we're "outing" Quake players, I used to play in Div1 in the UKCCL :) Why don't I feel dirty ?

And the information was actually accurate.

Wasn't actually, he spelt my name wrong.

But yes, he "outed" the well known fact that I was a Quake player and ran the ClaraNET Thrash. Most people already know this however, as it used to be in my Sig (even in this group). It's nice of him to finally catch up though, even if he is 7 years too late.

Ah happy days, I even won quite a bit of prize money playing that Q3 in competitions. I still play Q3 even now and can be found using the super- secret name "Lordy.UK" to make sure people don't realise it's me. How sneaky am I.

But the shame of playing Quake, how will I ever live it down :)

On these long days in hospital. I play World of Warcraft. Let's face it, anyone reading this is using Usenet which is about the geekiest thing one can do anyway...

Strange, innit?

He also missed one key point: your use of the expression "heh." Quite a critical omission that. Its influence lives on...

Heh.

D'oh. Okay okay Vectra V6. Mehehehehee.

Incorrect. It's "Webb" actually.

HTH

Incorrect. No, hang on - that's quite possibly true actually.

Oh no, you've outed me, I feel so dirty. It's a good job there isn't a wiki page or anything out there on the internet giving full details.

Oh, there is ? Bugger.

Very sad indeed, from my perspective. The great age of Quakeworld died as the internet took off and started to become flooded with morons ('lo Ken). I am a habitual hoarder though and still have a copy of it, along with demos of every QW game every played in the Thrash.

You've got me reminiscing now, I may go and watch some later.

Actually I'm quite proud of the fact that, as a young man discovering the internet, I organised and ran a nationwide competition with members not only from across this country, but from across the globe (bloody foreigners don't appear to understand the meaning of the word "national".

It was an achievement large enough to get noticed and supported by three internet providers, put it that way (bearing in mind that this was 1999 and ISPs were not 10 a penny back then). Coupled with the fact that between us we travelled around the country together hosting many LANs at each other's houses. As far as online buddies go, we were a tight knit bunch.

But, assuming you are actually the real Ken, you wouldn't really know about friends. Ah well, you know what they say - "few more years under the belt and it will become clear".

Indeed, that actually stems from the UKCML, it was one of the group's catchphrases.

Bonus points available to anyone who can tell me which QW clan I was in...

YOU ABSOLUTE BASTARD !

Yes. It's one of those expressions that has crept into my office thanks to my influence.

Along with exclaiming "fannies" when something terrible happens, like we run out of tea.

Sorry not something I can do...

*chortle* Yeah okay sorry. All made up now with the Subaru...

No, I couldn't find it actually either. Did find quite a few other Overlord.UK's though, one seems to be a big XBox fan (I draw the line at that).

"Ken" wrote in news:2aHDh.354888$ snipped-for-privacy@fe2.news.blueyonder.co.uk:

What an extraordinary non post.

Even sadder was the thrashing we got every week, 2nd div was just about our "level" ;)

Strange. Some things are easy to find on t'internet, some things, well they're not...

My Xbox is a great DVD player...

What's wrong with the xbox? My son (who's seven) has the xbox1 and a 360!!

Best thing is, you can "acquire" the games for free!

Sorry I didn't finish it. Actually I can re-phrase it.

I buy my favourite software, I rent games I'm unsure, and if I ever try a pirate copy it's on somebody elses' hardware... :-)

Bugger off, I'm still not talking to you :)
