But he will save about £100/month on fuel. On a 4-year loan he could get £4500 for that monthly outlay. In 4 years the newer car will still be worth more, and he'll have spent the same total amount of money.

Makes sense to me.

I agree with the other bits tho. Get an RS4 and a better job to pay for it.

Talking of door locks (I should really start a new thread here, never mind) - does anyone know if it's possible to convert a van with remote central locking to having a "slam lock" function without actually fitting proper slam locks? Basically what I've got in mind is getting an extra remote key cut so as not to have to carry the spare everywhere, and getting it sorted so that whenever any door is shut it operates the central locking, so I can just simply use the remote to unlock it rather than faffing about with keys in door locks (which I never have to do these days apart from to get in t'house).

Basically I'm after some sort of simple adjustment I can do to the central locking system to utilise that rather than get slam locks fitted (which work insist on).
