It's reported as such by people who don't know what they are talking about. But actually for a Merc it's rather a decent handling car as opposed to their more normal "jelly on a springboard" style of handling.

As for 60 cars off autotrader (national search I assume with XS as a keyword) the first two listings are 1.4 but the rest are mostly 1.6.

Sorry i was referring to series 1's, there is DEFINATELY a 1.4 XS 75bhp! Check parkers, i know someone who has one! I've driven it! Honest! In series 2 i don't think theres any XS's in this country, and i still don't think theres a 1.6 XS, the 1.6 rallye there is! They are great cars.

Right. Done research. There was a series 1 1.4 XS, and both a 1.4 and 1.6 XSi in series one. No series 1 1.6 XS. Also, i think the early 75bhp XS's were badged as XSi's, till the 100bhp one came out. All very confusing, all very Peugeot :)

Series 2, there was 1.6 Xs's but not availabke new anymore, there was also the XT 1.6, and the auto 1.6's, the XL and XR. The new range is only GTi's, quiksilvers and 1.1's. The XS and other 1.6/1.4 models from what i can see are fairly scarce, but not so scarce as you can't find one :) The 1.6 Rallye is fairly common, and makes 103bhp, which is pretty good, and unlike the 1.3 100bhp series 1 rallye, has some torque ;)

Also, another one worth looking for (although rare) is the Roland Garros special edition (leather (maybe only half leather), air con etc) thats a 1.4

Left knee, I take it? That happens to me a little in the Fiesta (Mk5), but really not enough to bother me, and it actually gives me that snugly-fitted, comfortable feel. Much in the same way as it was easier and more comfy to sleep in the back of my mate's Metro GTi than it was in the back of my Carlton Estate (with the car in motion). Work that one out!

My mate's got one and he loves it - he's not that bothered about the hairdresser image, he just likes the car. Only reason there's less room than in the back of the Ka is due to the height - I actually thought that it was fairly spacious (for the type of car it is) in the back as far as legroom went.

He's getting a brand new MR2 in a couple of weeks, so watch out for the Tigra on eBay.

That's my problem. I rode in it when I was about 12 or 13 and was cramped in the back due to the sloping rear window.

I know, but I regularly have 2 or 3 passengers...

How can you ask for a faster car that a Ka and not expect the insurance to be more?

And if you wanna buy a brand new 106, better hurry up! its dealer stock only now, they aren't making any new 106s now for sale in this country.

The AXGT is a fair bit more rapid, but only £50 more on the insurance. I don't want an AX though...

We tried round a few main and independant Skoda dealers. Most for the age and mileage were arround the £5k, and she got nearly double the trade in going where she went, because it what they do to get a sale on their newer/better used cars, and because I take all my repair both Saab and Skoda to them.

Local main dealer has these 1.4 8v Fabias available (8v uses Skoda engine 16v uses Polo engine).

And here are the "New" as in never registered 2002 8v 1.4's (they don't make that for the 2003 range, they have the 12v 1.2 3cylinder Skoda engine now)
