Even when the key is out of the ignition the button in the glove box still opens the trunk. Is that normal.

Yes, that's totally normal, pretty much all cars with a "trunk release" will do the same thing.

My trunk release doesn't release with the button unless the key is on.

might as well, since you can lower the backseat from the inside. (on a coupe at least, don't know about convertible) Remove NO-SPAM from email address when replying
