Clutch Pedal Problem on 1972

I have a 1972 Mustang with a 4-Speed Toploader. The clutch pedal does not return by itself all of the way. After I depress it to the floor and then remove my foot, the pedal only returns about 3/4 of the way back. I have to put my foot under the pedal and pull it back up and then it "pops" back to the returned position. Any ideas what causes this?

Wear, adjustment and broken springs affect.

Have you used a flashlight and looked closely at the pedal assemblies?.. yeh, I know it's uncomfortable and not very dignified.

The older cars used a fairly strong "over-center" spring -one end to clutch pedal arm, the other to fixed point several inches above the arm pivot- to assist in clutch depression and return to full disengagement.

Also the bronze bushings wear to the point of non-functionality, over time
