If I am changing the oil consistently every 3k miles in my 92 Sentra, should I use the more expensive brand of motor oil or would the less expensive brand do the job?

As long as it's "SG" rated it will be fine.

Sposedly you should switch to heavier-weight oils for older engines. At 100K, I switched to 20W-50.
