I race a 1987 200 SX in a stck 4 cly. class of racing, it is a little sluggish off of the turns, I have to run in third gear, 2nd is too low third seems a little too high. Can I change the rear end gear or something to keep it wound up a little more?

I assume it has the R180/R200 IRS style rear end? If so there were all sorts of gear ratios made in those style. If you can't do that, a shorter/smaller OD tire/wheel will acomplish the same thing.
